Design

Overall form is a critical component to Dredge Design’s aesthetic, and its individual style is continuing to reveal itself as more pieces are added to the furniture line. Design choices have been influenced by Denver based custom furniture shop Where Wood Meets Steel, where founder Brodey Carpenter worked as a designer and woodworker for several years after obtaining his B.S. degree in Industrial Design (product design). Other less apparent influences include Techwear, PNW architecture, industrial modern aesthetics, and minimalism.

Materials

Wood selection is a fairly basic concept at Dredge Design. We Primarily use woods that are local to the Southern Oregon and its South Coast, and are procured by developing relationships and working together with local loggers, sawyers, and distributers. Working closely with local sawyers allows for more control over wood grain selection guaranteeing stronger and more gorgeous wood. The 4 types of wood we offer are Big Leaf Maple, Myrtle Wood, White Oak, and Black Walnut.

Construction

At Dredge we not only design furniture, but we also make it. This means that from the initial concept of each piece, “how is this actually going to be made?” is constantly at the forefront of the brain. We’ve come to use a development process of sketching, then 3-D modeling each piece prior to ever cutting a board, or welding steel. This helps ensure that we have a plan for each piece that is manufacture-able, and repeatable so that we can provide premium quality craftsmanship at a reasonable pace. All woodwork and welding is done in house, as well as final fit and finish. We take pride in delivering well designed, and built furnishings that can wear in to your everyday use. We hold each piece to strict QC inspection through all the steps of the construction process, to prevent complete do-overs.
