Founded in 2017, Brodey Carpenter created Dredge Design after obtaining his bachelors of science degree for industrial Design in Denver, Colorado and honing his skills at a local custom furniture shop: Where Wood Meets Steel, sealing his passion for the streamlined and sturdy raw materials of wood and steel. Ready to return to his roots, Brodey created Dredge Design to capture the beauty, longevity and untamed nature of the Southern Oregon Coast.
At its core, Dredge Design aims to design, develop, and manufacture furnishings used in your daily life for function and aesthetics. The pieces aspire to become the worn-in favorite that still commands a second look based on form alone and upon closer inspection, reveals quality material and thoughtful craftsmanship.
Dredge Design is focused on all aspects of creating including design, material specifications, woodworking and in-house metal fabrication. Brodey’s hands-on approach, local collaboration and backyard access to unmatched native species such as Big Leaf Maple and Myrtle wood, allows for his designs to be truly unique and detail-oriented. Dredge Design is a frontier trail blazer leading in furniture design on the Southern Oregon Coast.

Hey there! I'm Herbie Smith, I was born and raised in Gold Beach, Oregon. Growing up, I found adventure in the natural beauty surrounding my hometown, and those early experiences shaped the path I would take.
After graduating from high school, I ventured off to the University of Oregon. College was a transformative time, but it was commercial waterproofing in Portland that became my calling for the next decade. I loved the hands-on work and the sense of accomplishment it brought.
Along this journey, I met my incredible wife, and together we started our family. As our child grew, we realized that Gold Beach's charm and the community we loved were calling us back home.
When my cousin, the founder of Dredge Design, reached out for help, it felt like the perfect opportunity. Now, I find myself handling a bit of everything, from sales and marketing to managing our online presence. I even get to roll up my sleeves and help out in the woodworking shop from time to time.
What I love most about working at Dredge Design is the fusion of craftsmanship, creativity, and community. Whether it's custom designing a piece or working on our signature line of furniture, I'm proud to be part of a team that values quality and the unique character of our small coastal town.
Gold Beach isn't just a place on the map for me; it's a part of who I am. It's the place where I grew up, where I've returned to raise my family, and where I've found a fulfilling role contributing to a local business that shares my values.
Being back home and working with Dredge Design feels like everything's come full circle. I'm excited to see where this new chapter takes us and how I can help bring our distinct furniture designs to even more homes.
